- 7th to 9th Grade
Our oldest group, 7th - 9th graders, will be embarking on a program called Neighboring Faiths: How to be a Perfect Stranger. We'll visit Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Quaker, Pagan, and Buddhist communities, a Multidenominational Church, and one other to be decided by the group. We'll begin by taking a deeper look at Unitarian Universalist values and worship service so we can compare and contrast. As Unitarian Universalists we believe in the importance of Interfaith dialogue and understanding among people of diverse religious and spiritual traditions. An introduction to this philosophy of openness and respect cannot begin too soon for our children and we are fortunate to live in an area where such Interfaith exposure is readily available.
- 4th to 6th Grade
What do duct tape, a hardhat, sandpaper, and a magnifying glass have to do with religious education? They are some of the real tools that we will use in the Toolbox of Faith program for 4th - 6th graders. For example, we will use duct tape to reflect on being flexible in our faith; we will use a hardhat to represent being resilient in our faith; and we will use sandpaper to illustrate how to smooth out rough spots with humor in our faith.
- Kindergarten to 3rd Grade
The Moral Tales curriculum for our Kindergarten - 3rd graders will help children become more aware of acts of courage, generosity, kindness, determination, patience, thoughtfulness, respect, creativity, honesty, forgiveness, conflict resolution, and fairness.
They will become more aware of taking care of oneself, of others, and of the earth. Each time the group meets the children will have the opportunity to share about their accomplishments. There will be many arts and crafts projects and service projects associated with this course.
- Quests for 4th to 9th Graders
In addition, there will be a series of 3 "Quests" for 4th - 9th graders. These will be spiritual journeys of various sorts, some will be field trips, others more introspective. For the K -3rd graders there will be a "Faith in Action" component, like the social justice projects we've done in the past.
