Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst
About our Minister

Rev. Wohler
The Rev. Alison Wohler
I grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, then attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and stayed there till I moved to Amherst in the summer of 2005. I am a life-long Unitarian Universalist, having attended the First Unitarian Church in Cleveland till I went away to college. I later joined the Unitarian Universalist Church of Meadville where I was an active lay leader. In my first career I was a biologist working in an environmental laboratory. In 1980 I opened an art gallery which I owned and managed for 19 years before making the decision to study for the Unitarian Universalist Ministry. My Master of Divinity degree is from Andover Newton Theological School outside of Boston and I did my ministerial internship at First Parish in Concord, MA. I received Preliminary Fellowship in 2004 and while in the search process for a settled position I ministered part-time to the Jamestown, NY, UU Fellowship. I am a member of the summer incarnation of the Chautauqua, NY, UU Fellowship where I have been privileged to deliver the occasional sermon.

I have two grown children and two brilliant, handsome/beautiful grandchildren. My husband and I live in the woods outside of Amherst with our cat, some kayaks, the woodstove, and our gardens to keep us busy. Oh, and sometimes we have to shovel snow, too!

I am delighted and honored to have been called to serve the Amherst congregation. We are a diverse congregation that cares deeply about each other and about making a difference in the larger world, too. I believe you can get a good sense of my naturalistic theology and understandings of our human condition by reading some of my sermons posted on this web-site. Please come join us for a Sunday morning worship service or for one of our Adult Religious Education offerings! I would be happy to speak with you if you have any questions about Unitarian Universalism or about the UU Society of Amherst.
