Remembering Amherst’s Black Civil War Soldiers

They were not famous poets, scientists, authors, judges.  They were not “important”, most of them listed with the occupation of “laborer” in the census records.  But twenty black men from the small town of Amherst fought (and some died) in the Civil War.  They fought for a good cause  – for freedom, for the end of slavery.  They deserve to be remembered.
